KAMAKHYA TEMPLE Introduction The Kamrup Kamakhya Temple, or the Kamakhya Temple, is one of the oldest Hindu temples in Guwahati, Assam, and the subcontinent. The temple is on Nilachal hills. It is one of the oldest and most revered places where Tantric practices are done. It is named after the mother goddess Kamakhya. In this temple we worship the Yoni of Devi Sati. Kamakhya temple is considered as one of the Shaktip eeth. The temple was built by Mlechchha dynasty and Rebuilt by Koch King Nara Narayan and Ahom Kings in the yea r 1565. Ambubachi Mela Ambubachi Mela is the celebration of the yearly menstruation course of goddess Kamakhya. It is believed that the presiding goddess of the temple, Devi Kamakhya, the Mother Shakti, goes through her annual cycle of menstruation during this time stretch.
